Image from last night’s PBS broadcast of The Nutcracker. The sets were beautiful—giant ornaments and doilies that looked like there had been an explosion at the Martha Stewart glitter factory. And I mean that in the best possible way.
This is the sort of programming that should remind you why PBS is so important: anybody, anywhere in the U.S. with over-the-air TV access could watch this last night. Some of the kids who were watching are going to grow up to be dancers; some viewers will take their kids to see their local production of The Nutcracker every year, because they were able to see it first on television, for free, because of their local PBS station.
